
The 2025 IWWF World Waterski Championships came to an end yesterday at the Centro Tecnico Federale in Recetto, Italy, after five days of thrilling competition that brought together more than 200 athletes from 33 nations.
Organized by the Italian Federation of Surfing, Waterskiing and Wakeboarding (FISSW) together with FISSW Servizi, under the aegis of the IWWF and CONI, the event showcased world-class performances in Slalom, Tricks and Jump, confirming once again the extraordinary competitiveness of the sport at the global level.
Italy closed the championship with a strong 5th place in the team standings. Three Italian athletes reached the finals: Thomas Degasperi, Brando Caruso and Nicholas Benatti. Degasperi, one of the legends of the sport, finished 6th in Slalom, Caruso placed 11th, while Benatti concluded 9th in Tricks. Other highlights included Francesco Caldarola’s personal best of 63 meters in Jump, as well as solid performances from Alice Bagnoli and Beatrice Ianni in Slalom. A young and motivated squad that competed with determination against the world’s strongest nations.
The championship not only delivered unforgettable finals but also marked the return of the World Waterski Championships to Italy after 24 years. Thousands of spectators gathered in Recetto to witness top-level action in a natural venue praised by athletes, judges and teams for its quality and hospitality.
The final day was attended by Italy’s Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, who congratulated the athletes and acknowledged the organizational excellence of FISSW and the local institutions.
The 2025 IWWF World Waterski Championships were supported by Kappa, Nuii – Maxibon, Nautique, Masterline, Eagle and Vicolungo The Style Outlets, with the institutional support of the Italian Ministry for Sport and Youth, the Ministry of Tourism, Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Novara, Comune di Recetto, CONI, CIP – Italian Paralympic Committee and Sport e Salute.
